THE LONDON PROTEST 2018
BAN GREYHOUND RACING
BAN GREYHOUND RACING
MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who attended and those who travelled across the country to be there!!
What a loud voice these dogs got and rightly so!!!
It was utterly amazing.
When I arrived on the Square, I was all alone. For a moment, negative thoughts blasted through my mind. 'What if it was a flop..just a handful of people' (We have had so much on lately, that we hadn't advertised the event as much as we would have normally)
The square was busy, but nobody in sight. I was 20mins early, but still...
I tried calling our closest advocates and phones were just ringing out 'no signal'
I was stressing so much, then boom!! Before we knew it, we had just over 150 advocates!!
A special thank you to the people who helped carry the materials yesterday. We had over 70 placards, 2 megaphones and between 12,000 and 15,000 leaflets!! I couldn't have got everything there without them!
Carrie and Michelle took one of the big megaphones and dozens of placards of which they would have struggled with especially coming home when missing the bus.
Bronwyn and Jayne who each took a really heavy trolley full of leaflets, totalling between 12,000 and 15,000 that were ALL distributed throughout the event!
Also Dave and his son Marley who kindly collected some placards from us on 'very short notice' and brought to the event. Marley was a pleasure to meet..another young anti greyhound racing warrior.
Emma who helped organise as she is experienced in 'London events' where there are a different set of rules to anywhere else as once quoted to me by Scotland yard;
"We are used to protests in London and haven't the resources to manage AR protests who usually give us no problems"
Emma suggested the location and very patiently beared with me while I had a massive panic moment as to whether it was an appropriate spot!
So, a BIG thank you to Emma for helping me to organise the cubes and march which was 'as people described it' truly amazing!!!!
Connor, Melissa and Cieran who played a crucial part in helping Emma and myself lead the March 'Such powerful voices with sooo much energy!
..and of course everyone who attended the march, without you there would have been no voice at all for the dogs!!
Kerry and BGP advocates, an outspoken rescue who we have enjoyed working with in our many campaigns.
BGP will soon be a registered charity which means that according to the Charity Commission rules BGP will no longer be able to organise anti racing events but all is not lost for us; gladly individuals can still support and attend our campaigns!! ..also thanks to Frankie for the powerful photo we shared on Caged. A future warrior!
Thank you to Laura for megaphone duty, as usual on the ball!
We were also really pleased to see so many vegan activists attend. We understand some find it difficult when they are attending events with single issue advocates. We do see the bigger picture being vegan ourselves, but we thank you for your patience and hope that in the process you will have inspired some people with your presence. Provoking thought is essential!
Finally thanks to Mike for doing nought!!
Kidding!!!!!!!
Michael promoted the event as much as he could in between working 12hr shifts, he made all the runs to and from the printers in heavy traffic and drove me to the station on hardly any sleep after packing everything for me the night before.
I know how much he wanted to come to the protest with me but was obligated to babysitting the dogs.
Yesterday was the best day ever and one I won't forget!! The march was the icing on the cake.
I'm still overwhelmed by it all!!
Thank you!!
Rita
