NO MORE GREYHOUNDS TO CHINA

We need your help to prevent the exports of greyhounds to countries where they have no protection whatsoever.
These dogs suffer horrendous lives while bred for racing and the greater public is made to believe that every greyhound retires to a comfy couch.
Greyhounds - Loyal, loving and once the most respected breed in history, are being sent to countries where they will be put to death 'possibly in ways more horrific than you could ever imagine' Where there is no re-homing programme or animal welfare protection.

SENT TO CHINA VIA THE UK
Transport of 24 dogs to China intercepted by Caged Nationwide in Lymm, Cheshire, on 11th May 2016
Statement by Caged Nation Wide
On The morning of Wednesday the 11th of May 2016, we received disturbing information relating to the welfare of 24 Irish greyhounds. We were advised that the dogs would be transited through England that day and later transported to China, for the purpose of racing at the Canidrome in Macau.
The Canidrome -
Where dogs are inhumanely killed, if they do not get placed as 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any of their first 5 races, or if they sustain an injury.
A small team of dedicated people worked with us, to gather information. Caged contacted the Greyhound Board of Great Britain who confirmed that that Irish dogs were due to be transported from England to China, but they did not know which airlines were involved. However they did tell us which track these dogs were coming from.
The track was named as 'Banteer' Greyhound schooling track in Co Cork, Ireland. Proprieter 'Robert Green'
We were told by reliable sources that Robert Green is a greyhound dealer 'he purchases dogs that are not fit to make the grade in Ireland'
Robert Green was the original owner of the 24 dogs destined to China - The dogs were later registered to Mr Wai Lok Chu
The dogs were transported to Dublin port and arrived at Holyhead at approximately 6.40pm
They arrived nearby Lymm services where the vehicle became stationary on the A50 at approximately 9.30pm, where another van was waiting their arrival ' Galloway and Dumfries' Furniture removal van opened its rear doors to a hand over of dogs from the Irish vehicle owned by Ross Myles.
Michael James (Director of Promotions for Caged Nation Wide) was present at the scene. Michael had followed the Irish van from Holyhead Port to the A50 Lymm, in order to view the exchange of dogs.
During a discussion with other campaigners, it was decided that he should follow the vehicle to the location ( Lymm service station) where the exchange would presumably take place and the hand over of greyhounds could be captured covertly on film.
The hand over of dogs 'unexpectedly' took place at the side of a dark trunk road, where visibility was very poor. The tip off we had originally received, only gave us a presumption of where the hand over of dogs would take place, or at which airport they were heading to.
Michael confronted the 3 men and took the video footage in the A50 lay-by, for the following 3 reasons -
1) We were advised that the van was likely travelling to private premises 'greyhound trainers kennels' where the transporters and dogs would spend the night, until the flight was due on the following day.
It would have been impossible to capture any video footage of the dogs, once the van had entered private premises. There was also the concern that the vehicle would be travelling directly to the airport, which would have given us less opportunity and time to help prevent the export, unless we had video footage as evidence. This concern was prompted when Michael realized that the dogs where being placed in to shipping crates.
2) It was impossible to 'covertly' film the dogs being handed over by Ross Myles to Robert Green as the area was not lit and footage would have been of very poor quality deeming it useless as evidence, especially if captured from a distance, i,e. there were high levels of traffic that was obstructing any view.
We had no option other than to confront the transporters in order to gather the evidence.
3) Ross Myles would return home to Ireland once the dogs were handed over at Lymm, which meant he would not have been held in any way accountable, unless we had video evidence.
Michael was obviously the first of the Caged team to arrive on the scene and once his presence was known, he was almost immediately assaulted by Robert Green.
Robert Green reached into Michaels vehicle and grabbed him by the throat.
Curious drivers slowed down to watch. One driver slowed down virtually stopping and another became stationary in the lay-by, as to observe. The transporters began to surround the stationary vehicle and took photographs. We later spoke with the driver, who told us, that he had become curious when he had seen the vans and dogs at the side of the road. He claimed he left the scene because he felt threatened by the transporters who took photographs of his registration plate and his face.
Rita James the founder of Caged Nationwide was accompanied by other Caged advocates who attended the scene, within minutes of Michael being assaulted.
One Caged advocate had driven past the scene due to one of the men chasing after her vehicle when she had attempted to slow down. The man was William Green 'Brother of Robert Green'
Rita left the vehicle that was parked approximately 100 yards from the lay-by. As she approached the scene on foot, she witnessed the men being confrontational and therefore called for emergency police assistance.
William Green 'Brother of Robert Green also driver of the furniture removal van' approached her to discuss the situation, but she refused to speak to him until the police arrived and she asked Michael to continue filming.
The fellow advocate then joined her at the scene and witnessed the dogs being lifted onto the van and the transporters behaving confrontational.
Another advocate had also arrived and was also closely observing the situation.
Dogs were being lifted from van to van, at the side of the A50, where there was very poor lighting, these dogs were crying loudly and we could see shoddily made shipping crates that were placed on the floor at the rear of the furniture removal van.
The interior of the English van 'the furniture removal van' grabbed our attention, as it looked completely unequipped for the transportation of greyhounds and we believed it seriously breached Defra WADTO regulations, another reason which had prompted Michael to gather video footage of the exchange as evidence.
A police vehicle arrived. The officer claimed he was in the area and was alerted by the unusual activity on the lay-by
Robert Green 'owner of 24 greyhounds destined for China and proprietor of Banteer Schooling track' became frustrated at Michael who continued filming, he once again became violent and attempted to swipe at Michael, near striking other advocates in the process. Rita asked the attending police officer to make an arrest for assault, but the police officer did not act. This was recorded within our video evidence.
On asking the police to arrest the men due to their aggressive behavior, the police officer claimed that the men were being provoked by Michael due to his attempt to film them. We explained that this was understandable, but our actions were fully legal and due to the circumstances, we had no choice but to gather evidence to produce to authorities.
The video evidence was later submitted to numerous national newspapers, additionally it was submitted to the local authorities concerned and Defra.
We would have liked the police to have given us the opportunity to view necessary paperwork for the transport and our intention was to call the RSPCA and local authority to ask an animal welfare inspector to examine the vehicle for breach of regulations, unfortunately the police officer allowed the 2 vehicles to leave the scene, despite the obvious breach of WADTO regulations and before we had chance to call for any assistance.
The police are under no obligation to uphold WADTO regulations.
A Caged North West advocate followed the Irish van, 'which still contained dogs', with intention to call the RSPCA to inspect the vehicle and documentation, but we were told they witnessed the van driving wrecklesly and were deeply worried that the dogs would get badly injured, therefore they decided to let the van go on its journey.
We believe they acted in the best interest of the dogs and fully support their actions.
At this stage we had no idea where the dogs would be taken to, and we were extremely worried.
During the exchange, Robert Green was heard mentioning the name of an award winning greyhound trainer, who is based in Manchester and races dogs at Belle Vue stadium.
Rita James visited the greyhound trainers premises and politely explained that the authorities were about to be notified of any such transports. The greyhound trainer reported her to the police. Shortly after, the police arrived at the premises, they were then provided with the the details surrounding her visit to the greyhound trainer, and they were very accommodating.
We were aware that the dogs could be transported from any British airport to Hong Kong, but had a tip off that it was likely to be Manchester airport. We also did not expect the drivers to make the dogs suffer any further travel that night, especially while contained inside small wooden crates that were clearly dangerous and unfit for purpose.
At around midnight, people from around the country 'both greyhound owners and advocates', began to arrive at Manchester airport of where they planned to secure a blockade, with intentions that the van containing 24 dogs, would be inspected by the RSPCA and an animal welfare inspector had they of arrived. The advocates attended at midnight and stayed outside the airport until 6pm the following evening. They were all very exhausted after having no sleep for 18hrs, in extreme heat, but they would not leave due to fear for the dogs. 'True dedication was shown by these people'
The temperature was above 80 degrees fahrenheit and it was doubtful that the furniture removal vehicle they were transported in had any cooling system for the dogs.
A reporter for 'The Manchester Evening News' attended and spoke with Michael James 'Director of Promotions for Caged Nation Wide' Michael gave a statement to a journalist, but the information was not published accurately, and swayed away from the true cause of the problem, which is lack of protection to dogs in the Greyhound Racing Industry and cruel exports of Greyhounds to the Canidrome in 'Macau'
On the following day '12th May' we received news that the the two drivers from the English van 'Robert Green and William Green' had arrived at Heathrow airport with 24 dogs preparing to dump them on a flight to China
We were advised that employees at the Heathrow airport animal reception had noticed the men trying to erect shoddy shipping crates on the grounds of the airport. We believe that it may have been for this reason that Heathrow airport declined to transport the dogs, however we are aware that it may have been protocol for security at Manchester airport to notify security at Heathrow airport about the protest and the media presence at Manchester airport earlier that day. Had this have been the case, we would question whether Heathrow airport quite rightly avoided any involvement in the scandal of dogs being transported to China (which was due to hit national newspapers), therefore rejecting the dogs travel to China via their airlines.
Following this, the footage of the 24 dogs in Lymm 'taken by Michael' was quickly picked up on, by national newspapers, sparking a worldwide campaign.
Michael had made a decision that has resulted in the video footage sparking worldwide uproar about exports of dogs to China, adding much pressure on authorities in England, Ireland and Macau.
Although transports from England to China are legal, we had hoped there would be some justice done for the 24 dogs, due to the mounting pressure, in that it will help bring an end to all future exports to countries that have no animal welfare protection whatsoever, as well as bringing an end to the Canidrome in Macau.
We believe the dogs were taken back to Ireland by Robert Green, and authorities were waiting for him at the port. The dogs were examined by a vet (we do not know the identity of the vet)
We were told by the IGB that the dogs were fit and healthy, but we witnessed with our own eyes, the conditions that these dogs were being transported in, for excessively long hours.
Statements from Caged Nation Wide were later submitted to the ISPCA and the GBGB.
Greyhounds are NOT protected from cradle to grave.
It is fully legal to transport dogs to countries where there are no animal welfare laws.
Greyhounds are vulnerable to inhumane treatment or death, due to lack of regulations.
The AWA2006 is not appropriately enforced, therefore does not protect greyhounds whatsoever.

Dear .............
I am writing with great concern, and as part of a worldwide unification in relation to Irish greyhounds being exported to countries that have no current animal welfare legislation.
It would be naive of me to assume that your organisation is unaware that greyhounds exported overseas for commercial use, are susceptible to a whole array of barbarities, leading to horrific levels of suffering and inhumane death.
Examples of which are stated below;
Death by Rhabdomyolysis - Due to being raced in extremely hot climates
Death from serious injury, whilst used for hunting purposes
Death by Organ failure - Due to the legal use of powerful drugs, including steroids to alter performance, when used for entertainment purposes
Death by hanging, poisoning, drowning
There is no legislation to prevent dogs being used as live feed for animals in Asian Wildlife parks.
Additionally, we have no guarantee that Irish greyhounds will not be eventually used by the Asian meat industry, once they no longer serve the purpose intended. Greyhounds being pulled from vehicles within the dog meat trade is becoming increasingly common.
At present social media has proven to be one of the most powerful tools in raising awareness. Video footage and images of greyhounds being tortured and killed overseas are being regularly captured and circulated throughout the masses.
Video evidence showing dozens of greyhounds being subjected to poisoning by Ecotraz 'Pesticide' (administered intravenously), prior to their cadavers being thrown into a ditch on a Vietnam football field, strongly suggests systematic cruelty of greyhounds in some parts of Asia, and that the Irish Greyhound racing industry as a whole, have no interest in what happens to the dogs that they purport to protect.
It is incomprehensible, that that your organisation innocently quote 'The IGB Code of practice' on your website, whilst you make no attempt to prevent dogs from being shipped to countries that clearly have no interest in animal welfare.
While the exports continue, we will endeavour to unite globally in support of the many campaigns to ban greyhound racing. New South Wales Government have recently proven that greyhound racing is not untouchable, particularly while it proves to be dependant on inherent cruelty.
The lack of mercy shown by the Irish Greyhound Board has caused it to become infamous, creating much antipathy in light of the exports.
The continuation of exports will unfortunately cost many lives, but will empower the anti racing movement, it will work in their favour to drive greyhound racing into a steep decline.
I would like to request that the IGB cease all future exports of greyhounds to countries where there is little or no enforced animal welfare legislation
If you persist in refusing to take action to protect the very dogs that you are solely responsible for, I will make every effort to unite with the anti racing movement and to assist in bringing an end to greyhound racing.
I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Yours Sincerely

Dear ...............
I have great concern for the current welfare of greyhounds that are bred for the greyhound racing industry and I would like you to please urgently act on my behalf.
The British greyhound racing industry is dependent on Irish bred greyhounds, around 80% of dogs raced on British tracks are bred in Ireland.
Mr Michael Creed- Minister for Agriculture, Food & the Marine and Minister for Defence, has most recently defended the use of greyhounds sent to China for commercial purposes. Around 30 Irish greyhounds per month are killed when they are deemed no longer of use for racing at 'The Canidrome' which is based in Macau, a chinese province.
British greyhound trainers/owners are also disregarding the welfare of their dogs, solely for commercial gain, while they send their dogs to countries where there is no adequate or enforced animal welfare legislation, such as Pakistan, Spain, Vietnam, and many others.
I am strongly opposed to the transportation of greyhounds for commercial use to countries where there are no laws to protect them and where they are susceptible to the most horrific deaths, therefore I would like to demand that an urgent ban on greyhound racing is brought into force with immediate effect.
If this is not possible, I will participate in creating public outcry throughout the UK and will promote and attend numerous demonstrations that will proceed throughout the UK
I thank you in advance for acting on my behalf.
If you refuse to assist me, you will lose my vote in the next election.
I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Fight to #closethecanidrome the world’s deadliest dog track. The Macau Canidrome is China’s only legal dog track and thousands of innocent greyhounds have been sent there to be used for racing and then destroyed. Please sign the petition below.
UPDATE- The Canidrome is set to close in 2018, but the lives of the dogs are hanging in the balance, as Leong claims she will not allow the dogs to go to independent rescue.
