Greyhound Remembrance 2014
On July 26th and 27th 2014 events will be held around the UK to commemorate the million plus greyhounds that have lost their lives since greyhound racing began in 1926.
Destruction due to falls on tracks, puppies that don't make the grade, loser's and pregnant dogs, many killed using unimaginable cruelty i.e. Electrocution, drowning, poisoning, shooting, mutilation, starvation and tens of thousands shot by the captive bolt gun.
Over the years many greyhounds have been exported abroad to countries with little or non existent welfare laws, they have even been sold off to universities for dissection.
Greyhound remembrance events are usually held all around the UK on Remembrance weekend '26th and 27th July each year.
Caged are preparing to hold Greyhound Remembrance Day in Piccadilly Gardens Manchester on Sunday 27th July 2014. Joining Caged will be the Greyhound protection group 'Greytexploitations' also greyhound awareness group 'Jedi's Bus Tour' and the largest greyhound rescue centre in England ' Tia Greyhound rescue'
Manchester council have kindly given Caged preliminary permission to use the gardens for the event, as a mark of respect for the dogs and to help promote awareness and rescue.
Stalls will be held by the above named groups, face painting, tombola, raffles and awareness leaflets will be available, not forgetting all the wonderful greyhounds that will be present on this day.
We invite you to bring your greyhounds to show people what greyt companions these magnificent dogs make.
Caged have hired Air Ads to fly a banner over the whole of the North West on this same day, which will carry a valuable message for millions to see. Look out for the big red sky banner on Sunday 27th July 2014 !!!
Please avoid bringing unsociable or noisy dogs, we must respect other park visitors.
Dogs must be kept under control at all times, this includes using a muzzle where necessary and kept on a lead at all times in a public place.
PLEASE clean up after your dog, bins will be provided.
