Request to approve artwork for a Caged Nationwide billboard in Manchester was made to CAP
December 2015
CAP told us;
“We don’t think the concept itself is inherently problematic, but rather the presentation of it, particularly the skeletal images in conjunction with the wording’
The team were a bit split, some executives felt that the combination of the imagery and text went too far for the use in untargeted media, hence why we advised that the copy was borderline
Our billboard agency refused to accept our artwork without full CAP approval.

Our billboard agency refused to accept our artwork without full CAP approval.
We amended the text (as shown in image no1) to 'Greyhounds Running for Their Lives' -and deleted the small text ‘Every licensed Greyhound track has a freezer to store the dead dogs’
Artwork no 2 was approved and the advert was given the go ahead by the agency that we paid

12 digital 'You Bet They Die' billboards go live around the UK
15 Complainants, including the Greyhound racing regulators the, Greyhound Board of Great Britain, contacted the ASA about the 'You Bet, They Die' billboards, that they had seen in February 2018.
All complainants challenged whether the claim 'You Bet, They Die, was misleading and could be substantiated.
By the time that the complaint was made, all 12 billboards had already been removed.
The case was informally solved by the ASA

Caged publication in 'Whats On' Magazine
July 2018 - 3 complainants contacted the ASA about the publication
Issue 1)
All 3 complainants challenged the following comment;
"Every Year thousands of British and Irish Greyhounds go missing. Most are presumed dead, while others are shipped to countries with no welfare protection such as China"
(We did not state any figure for the number of greyhounds that had been exported)
Complainant no 1) acknowledged that greyhounds had been shipped to countries with no welfare laws in the past, but argued that this was no longer the case.
Complainant no 2) argued that the large number referred to in the claim was misleading because very few greyhounds had been sent to China for breeding.
Complainant no 3) argued that a total of nine greyhounds were sent from Ireland to a licensed track in Macau to race early in 2016 but none had been sent since.
Issue 2)
Two of the complainants argued that Caged was solely a campaigning organisation and claimed that the ad 'and references made to improving welfare of greyhounds' was misleading, as Caged donations did not contribute to the welfare of greyhounds
Caged was ask to submit evidence of its claims to the ASA.
We asked that the complainants substantiate that greyhounds both Irish and British were traceable from cradle to grave, and able to account for all greyhounds.
We understood they were unable to do this and therefore we told the ASA that we believed their argument had no substance.
We sent the ASA the following evidence
1) The Greyhound Board of Great Britain annual greyhound data admitting to the destruction of 1013 raced greyhounds during 2017 in Great Britain alone.
2) Video evidence taken in May 2016 showing the interception by Caged NW of 24 greyhounds that were being transported to Macau, Hong Kong to race at the deadly Canidrome race track.
3) A video of an Irish greyhound breeder selling dogs to Caged and Birmingham Greyhound Protection under the belief that they were being sold to Pakistan.
We offered to send the ASA countless cases of evidence of greyhounds that had been shipped to Pakistan, China and Spain, all countries where there are no up to date welfare laws.
4) The second report of the, House Of Commons, parliamentary review of greyhound welfare 2015-16 showing a comment made by the Greyhound Forum who worked closely with the Greyhound Board of Great Britain.
p9) Areas of concern -
"The Greyhound Forum believe that somewhere between 1,000 to 3,700 dogs are unaccounted for each year"
