'Banned Trainer & Benefits Cheat' Kennels Retired Greyhounds for Homing Organisation
During November 2019, CAGED received calls from numerous residents in the South Wales area; We were advised that six retired greyhounds who were under the care of the Greyhound Trust were placed with banned trainer & benefits cheat Derek Davy by a local rescue who had taken dogs there on the rescues behalf. We contacted Clarissa Baldwin Chair of the Greyhound Forum & Mark Bird MD of the GBGB expressing our concerns. We first received correspondence from Clarissa stating that Lisa Morris Tompkins (CEO of the Greyhound Trust) had been notified & should respond directly to us. Mark Bird MD of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain gave us a similar reply. The following day we received an email from, Andrew Gillon, Head of Operations and Welfare at the Greyhound Trust stating; "Lisa has brought it to my attention that you have approached the GBGB to discuss Greyhound Trust dogs currently residing in kennels in Wales owned by Derek Davey. I wanted to write to tell you that we are indeed looking into this and alternative kennelling arrangements, I will myself be visiting our Welsh branches next week" One week later we reproached the Greyhound Trust for an update. Andrew replied; "Apologies for the delay. Actually in Wales at the moment. I can confirm that we are looking at a few options for alternative kennelling arrangements" |
Two weeks later we receive a phone call from those who originally informed us of the situation advising us that the Trust had visited the kennels and found them to be satisfactory. In our email to Andrew we wrote 'we understand that the conditions at Derek Davy's kennels were satisfactory and the dogs have not been moved' to which Andrew replied;
"I didn’t have any immediate welfare concerns regarding the facilities when I visited, no"
